In my opinion the best over the counter anxiety medication that exists, is phenibut.
Phenibut, chemically known as b-phenyl-aminobutyric acid, is a neuropsychotropic drug that mimics the effects of a brain chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid or GABA. The chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in your body that helps lower the levels of anxiety and stress in your body that can otherwise hurt you.
Discovered in the Soviet Union in 1960, this convenient solution helped increase the threshold to extreme fatigue and stress of Russian astronauts when travelling in outer space. Phenibut has proven to be effective in treating symptoms of insomnia, depression, irregular heartbeat, and anxiety.
The primary benefit of this drug is enhanced support for relaxation. Anyone who is having trouble sleeping or is overly stressed can benefit greatly from this drug. Even better, Phenibut is natural, and there are almost no negative side effects.
In addition to helping support relaxation, this non-prescription anxiety drug will help most users to enjoy more restful sleep. Not only do most people report sleeping better, but also being able to fall asleep fast. The added Phenyl group allows Phenibut to cross the blood-brain barrier, enhancing the levels of dopamine, a powerful chemical responsible for movement and mood.
Another vital benefit of this drug is that it enhances feelings of well-being. Ideally, concrete evidence indicates that it lowers anxiety and the resulting psychological and physical symptoms associated with anxiety which is probably one of the most desired benefits that people seek.
Why the sudden interest?
I first bought phenibut HCL when I was in college. Even though my studies where not particularly difficult during some days I was consumed by anxiety, mainly during the classroom presentation days.
As an introvert, presenting in front of a crowd no matter how small it was I’d always fuck up my voice intonations, I experienced jitters and overall profuse sweating as if I was disarming a ticking bomb. It was a nightmare because every year I had to do 3-4 presentations which consumed my mind weeks before each one. It doesn’t matter how much I practised or what kind of mental tricks I tried to apply to myself I just wasn’t seeing any significant changes.
Luckily I found out about this drug and its’ amazing properties and without much thought I made an order which cost me double the money to ship it from the US to Europe and you know what – it was worth every fucking penny of it. The day I received it and tried it, was the biggest game changer for me as I felt like I was bringing a rifle to a sword fight. For most of my life people were telling me to ‘just get over my anxiety’ or ‘just be confident’ and of course the biggest load of horse shit, ‘just be yourself’. Mix in extreme introversion with a few drops of shyness and general anxiety and the result is a person who stresses every little detail in his/her life when it comes to social interactions and especially presentations in front of crowds.
By the time I got to the ‘’stage’’ my mind was racing a million miles in every direction. ‘Oh no my knees are shaking, my shirt is too wrinkled, I just forgot my introduction, what will my class mates think, why is the teacher looking at me with such a weird expression?’ and many more questions were popping into my head without me realising it and being able to control it. My head just wasn’t in the game no matter how much I tried to focus when it came to doing presentations.
So how did it help me?
It opened up the gates to extreme calmness and moderate sense of euphoria without lowering my sex drive, something that anxiety (and in general) prescription drugs are notorious about.
I certainly didn’t wake up the next day feeling like someone poured a hot soup in my brain. I actually had the best sleep during the days that I took it and that is just a small benefit amongst the other huge benefits that I have experienced as an introvert with elevated anxiety.
First and foremost, talking to strangers and particularly to young, hot, cute, beautiful chicks – you know, the ones who cause men to experience the ‘’butterflies’’ in their stomachs and cause massive anxiety to men, was much easier experience. Phenibut effects are simply mind blowing!
Everything happened more spontaneously. The dreaded handshakes and small talk were no longer well… dreaded. I was feeling like a million bucks and every social interaction felt smoother, even if some people were not open for it. It goes without saying that I didn’t take it every single day and I still had to learn how to get out of my head in order to complete my daily tasks using positive self talk in proper ways and re-framing every problem as an opportunity to learn.
Second and most important it made my presentations much less stressful. The symptoms of anxiety did not vanish completely but I was able to maintain a confident posture and make eye contact with my audience around the room. Like I mentioned before I always had stage fright and after taking this drug it made everything much easier. I was still shaking a bit but I wasn’t talking too fast, I didn’t forget as many things as before and the professors at my university noticed that and gave me a few extra marks for presentation related skills.
I still buy phenibut to this day even though I’m not studying for exams or dealing with any particularly stressful situation but I like the feeling of power that it gives me. It makes an introvert like me more inclined to talk to people and it makes feel well after-all. I can approach a woman that I want without exerting too much willpower and I can make someone else’s day with a bit of small talk and random acts of kindness. I can remember a handful of situations where I had the perfect opportunity to help a stranger but I didn’t do it because I was too closed off to the rest of the world when I was out.
The first thing I would say to any person who first obtains this drug is to first get an accurate digital scale in order to take the correct phenibut dosage and some juice (any kind of sweet juice like pineapple would do) before starting out.
Second, too much of a good thing is going to bring adverse effects on the mind. Do not abuse this product.
In my experience the taste was and still is awful. It’s so bitter it will make you throw up if you dissolve it in water and try to drink it all at once, and yes I tried it with just a few ml of water and it still felt like there is a tonne of salt in my mouth. The only reason I was gulping it down despite the bitterness, is because the rewards were simply too good to make me back down. So pour it in just a few drops of water to dissolve it and then pour some sweet juice once you make the correct measurements with your digital scale.
My recommendation on your first dose is to take 1 to 1.5 grams at once in the morning (sometimes I take 800 mg if my day is not too long and tiring), eat something about 1-2 hours after that and continue your day. Some people recommend that you take another small dose 3-4 hours after the first dose but honestly I never felt the need to do that. Maybe they did feel the need to take it but I found ways to boost its’ effects without dosing again. Phenibut dosage for anxiety varies with each person.
To boost the effects of phenibut I suggest you do some exercise. A moderate or high amount of cardio will boost the effects and make you feel like the bravest motherfucker with the biggest kahoonas around the town, and I mean it. After playing a game of tennis with a friend, there was a feeling of euphoria and relaxation after the game session which made me take action on stressful tasks without second thoughts, no second guessing my abilities.
It’s the kind of state that every hard core introvert with a mind as busy as a highway, that’s the state I was not experiencing for a very long time and it felt so liberating to break from its’ chains for once.
The biggest game changer was when I started combining this drug with other supplements such as opti-neuro. It is sold in the UK market and the equivalent of that in the US is opti-mind. These two are supplements that boost concentration and if you combine them with Phenibut you can feel even more stress free and focused than before
Phenibut withdrawal effects
If you want to avoid having withdrawal effects then you need to simply space out the use of this drug to avoid addiction. It is reported that withdrawal effects include lethargy and irritability but that only happens you use it every single day. It is better to be used at maximum 2-3 times per week. I have never experienced phenibut withdrawal effects simply because I did not abuse it.
Stacking with other supplements/drugs
You can also stack it with other nootropics such as OptiMind. Check this guy’s guide on how to do this. It will help you study easier by concentrating more without crashing by the end of the day and actually make you sleep like the sweet Jesus baby. However, because I live in the UK, I don’t have access to OptiMind but rather, a similar nootropic called OptiNeuro which has similar effects when combined with phenibut. To put it in short, your brain doesn’t ‘’hurt’’ too much from massive loads of work at the end of the day. You will not experience headaches and you are still going to be able to sleep well.
If for some reason you want to sleep earlier that day take 100-200 mg of 5-HTP. It will boost the relaxation effects and put you into deep sleep without having the need to take higher doses of the same thing to sleep. If you don’t have 5 htp, phenibut and alcohol will also put you to deep sleep, though I don’t recommend that you do that often, for health reasons.
What are the drawbacks?
- It’s not a miracle substance that you can use every day so you still need to put in a fuck load of hours into whatever it is that you want to get good at. Drugs and supplements, are just making your path to success a bit smoother.
- It takes time for the full effects to kick in. Every time I used it, it took about 4-5 in order for me to notice the effects.
Fun fact: I once had to make a mini presentation at 9 in the morning and knowing that the full effects of Phenibut would take about 4-5 hours t kick in, I woke up the same morning at 4 a.m to take this drug and practised my presentation all morning. Needless to say I had the most confident posture in the room.
Is it cheating if you take over the counter anxiety meds for performance enhancement?
The same people who tell you that using those drugs are bad for you, are the people who poison their bodies and minds in a million different ways. They read mind numbing and misleading magazines and newspaper reports etc. They don’t follow any decent nutrition plan and they rarely exercise.
It’s not acceptable to take over the counter anxiety medicine that helps you study better, but it’s perfectly acceptable to poison your body with junk food and alcohol (the drug responsible for most deaths, accidents and overall deterioration of life). They think that you are somehow cheating to get ahead without them realising that they too, ‘cheat’ by using stimulants like coffee to concentrate, drinking alcohol to relax in order to socialise with greater ease and eat chocolate to allow for a short-term energy boost.
They are hypocrites who are willing to do what it takes to move further economically or socially as long as they move in with the crowd, society’s norms and what they deem as an acceptable way to further their interests.
